Issue Position: Hoosier Values

Having been born and raised in a small, rural community, I was instilled with the Hoosier values of hard work, family, and community.

I started my first job at the age of nine, and for the past 20 years I have owned and operated my own small business. I know what it takes to roll up my sleeves and make tough choices to get things done. Too often members of Congress get caught up in partisan rhetoric instead of doing the hard work to solve the many problems facing our country.

I strongly support a "No budget, No pay" law for members of Congress. If Congress fails to meet its budget deadline, their pay should be cut off. American families are penalized for making late payments on their bills and taxes, and small businesses who don't have a long-term budget are bound for failure. Unless Congress takes the budget deadline seriously, we will continue to see threats of government shutdowns and experience economic uncertainty. It's time that members of Congress are held to the same standard of accountability as the rest of us.

After starting my own business, I decided to serve my community in the Indiana General Assembly, where I built a strong record of defending Hoosier values. I regularly defended our Constitutional right to bear arms, and I am proud to have earned an A-rating from the National Rifle Association. I also built a strong pro-life record in the General Assembly, having co-authored Indiana's partial birth abortion ban, which was signed into law.

As a member of the General Assembly, I worked with members of both sides of the isle to represent the interests of hard-working Hoosier families. I always fought for what I believed was right, and often stood up to members of my own party when I felt that their proposals would hurt small businesses or go against the beliefs and values of my constituents. My goal as a State Representative was not to advance a partisan, ideological agenda, but to represent the interests of my constituents and to solve problems.

It's time that members of Congress end their partisan rhetoric and roll-up their sleeves to get things done. That's why I'm running for Congress -- to bring the hard-working, common-sense Hoosier values of places like Washington, Indiana to Washington, D.C.
